For example, since no one government or business owns open-source software and has complete control over it, there’s a lower chance of encryption backdoors being used. This might sound counterintuitive given the fact that any individual or organization can change open-source code in any way they want. However, for open-source projects that have large and active communities behind them, it’s far more likely that any such vulnerabilities will be discovered and patched quickly.
